Want to see the future? Go get stung by bees!

(Photo courtesy from The Korea Herald)

Want to see your future, apart from everything else? Then go get stung by bees.

MySinChew reports that South Korean Cha Kil-jin can see ghosts and the future.

[The 61-year-old businessman is known for his ability to forecast the future and for his ability to communicate with spirits. In fact, his predictions for 2009 were recently featured in two Korean newspapers and were released by a Korean news agency.

Cha believes that a near death experience as an infant may have been the cause behind his unique abilities.

“Right after my one year birthday, a score of wasps stung me,” he explained. “I was in a coma for 15 days, and after I barely came back to life, if I said, ‘Father is coming’ or ‘The rice cake vendor is coming’ within moments my father would return home and one could hear the vendor.”]

I wonder what were his predictions for 2009. I tried to get into The Korea Herald
but you've got to be a subscriber to access. There goes freedom of information!!

Whatever his predictions were, we all feel gloom and darkness, especially if you follow reports from the current session of the World Economic Forum in Davos. The situation is so hopeless that top politicians are not attending for whatever reasons better known to themselves. Read here:

Ox, Cow, Bull, Bullshit.

Chinese zodiac

The Year of the Ox 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009

The Year of the Ox Persons born in the Year of the Ox are diligent, patient and rather remain silent. They are reliable as friends. But they are easy to irritate and tend to be stubborn and obstinate. Best matches are persons born in the Year of the Snake, the Rat or the Cock.

Is it Ox, Cow, Bull, or Bullshit??

From the dictionary:
Ox means the adult castrated male of the genus Bos, used chiefly as a draft animal.

Cow means the mature female of a bovine animal, esp. of the genus Bos.

Bull means the male of a bovine animal, esp. of the genus Bos, with sexual organs intact and capable of reproduction.

Bullshit means nonsense, lies, or exaggeration.

I think I would prefer to call it the Year Of The Bull !

And I wonder why the stool of such a regal animal is viewed with utter suspicion and disgust!

Let us see what the Buddha had to say about the bull. The quotation below is "copy and paste" (without permission..hahaha) from the blog of a revered Buddhist Monk who I regard as one of my esteemed teachers.

[In the Anguttara Nikaya he said, 'When the cows are crossing, if the bull swerves they follow his lead and swerve too. If he who is considered the leader amongst humans does not live correctly neither do others. If the leader is immoral the whole group will be so too. When the cows are crossing, if the bull goes straight they will go straight following his lead. If he who is considered the leader amongst humans has integrity others will have too. The whole group will be happy if their leader is good' (A.II,70-1).]

So take heed, all present and future leaders. Unfortunately this is a "ghost-town" blog. So gone to deaf ears!!

Just the same, if you happened to read this, please take heed; and may you have a healthy and a contented and a happy year ahead!!

Nick Vujicic : When you fall, get up !!

(Nick Vujicic)

This is one special message I wish to share with you for this Chinese New Year;

Please watch this YouTube video:

This man shows just how strong the human mind and body can be.
A true inspiration to all of us!

His name is Nick Vujicic.
He is a remarkable man!

[Imagine being born without arms. No arms to wrap around someone, no hands to experience touch, or to hold another hand with. Or what about being born without legs? Having no ability to dance, walk, run, or even stand on two feet. Now put both of those scenarios together… no arms and no legs. What would you do? How would that effect your everyday life?]

Obama : No More Gitmo

Aerial view of Guantánamo Bay
(Picture from Wikipedia)

Below is the latest from Wikipedia:

[During his 2008 Presidential campaign, Barack Obama described Guantanamo as a "sad chapter in American history" and promised to close down the prison in 2009. After being elected, President Obama reiterated his campaign promise on 60 Minutes and the ABC program "This Week." On 12 January 2009, the Associated Press reported that Obama plans to issue an executive order during his first week as president to close the detention center, although the closure may not be complete within his first 100 days as president. The fate of the remaining inmates would then be determined.

On 20 January 2009, President Obama stated that in fact he would sign the documents to close Guantanamo Bay, and as of midnight on 21 January 2009, he ordered the government to suspend prosecutions of Gitmo detainees for 120 days in order to review all the detainees cases to determine whether and how each detainee should be prosecuted.

A day later, President Obama signed an Executive Order stating that Gitmo would in fact be closed within a year.

The Guantánamo Bay Detention Camp is a United States detention center operated by Joint Task Force Guantánamo since 2001 in Guantánamo Bay Naval Base, which is on the shore of Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.]

Why the US has control over a "territory" of Cuba? Below is from Wikipedia:

[The United States assumed territorial control over Guantánamo Bay under the 1903 Cuban-American Treaty, which granted the United States a perpetual lease of the area. The current Cuban government considers the U.S. presence in Guantánamo to be illegal and the Cuban-American Treaty to have been procured by the threat of force in violation of international law.]

In fact I put up the question in "Yahoo Answers" some time ago. One of the answers I received is quite interesting:

"The 1903 Cuban-American treaty gave the United States lease control over Guantanamo Bay. In 1934, a new lease was negotiated between the Roosevelt administration and the Cuban government.

The current Cuban government considers the lease illegal but international law does not appear to support that position or at least provides no remedy for the Cuban position.

The current Cuban government refuses to cash the checks of approximately $4000 that the US pays each year."

How interesting!!

President Obama's First Country To Visit.

Pictures from BBC News
Sorry I can't tell which one is for real!!
Or are both the same person?

After Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th US President, the first question asked was:
"Mr President, which country will you visit first?"

"Indonesia, of course!!"

Chili Leaves : Good For Health?

This just came through email. I wonder whether it is true.

Chili leaves contain complete range of 蛋白氨基酸 [amino acid ?]. almost 4 times compared to the chili fruits. They also contain more than double what chili fruits have of 元素硒 , which are anti-cancerous substance. On top of that, chili leaves are rich in calcium, beta carotene, various vitamins and other nutrients.

Eating a suitable quantity of chili leaves enhances secreation of digestive juices, improves appetite and are good for reducing indigestion, gastric and stomach discomfort. Religion, Royalty, Sex, Mystery!!!

World's Shortest Essay:

This is a story of a 16 year old boy from New Hampshire , England who won the World's shortest essay competition.

He was awarded a scholarship at the University of Harvard for his
imagination and humour.

Here's an example of absolute brilliance....

Shortest Essay:

An English university creative writing class was asked to write a concise essay containing the following elements:

1) Religion 2) Royalty 3) Sex 4) Mystery

The prize-winner wrote:

"My God," said the Queen, "I'm pregnant. I wonder who the father is."

That's a KISS for you: Keep It Short and Simple.

That IS Enough

I was out from 10.33am after posting my last comment.

I received a rude sms at 2.05pm from someone giving me an ultimatum.

I suspected something must be going on in the comments after I left.

I only logged in at 2.40pm.

Now I understand. But I shall make it very clear that no one is going to dictate me as to how I manage my blog.

I shall leave the last 3 comments at 1.13(cilipadi), 1.17(monsterball), and 1.25 (monsterball) in "A Rose For Everyone" in order to "explain" what had transpired. From now on, all comments shall be moderated.

Have a nice day.

[For those who have not read my last post, here it is:]
To all visitors,

As I said before I value everyone who visits this blog and comments. I also said which I repeat here:
No problem with me if no one comments and no one cares to visit. Better than talking to myself in the house, that's all.

I don't earn anything that could feed me each day by blogging. I do this because I like it. If any visitor comes and comment as a friend, it's a bonus to my happiness.

So the choice is yours, to ALL of you. You can come anytime or go anytime. No big deal to me.

Have a nice day.

A Rose For Everyone

A ROSE for you. The rose is my favourite flower. The delightful fragrance pervades all evil. The beauty overwhelms all ugliness. The colour overshadows all darkness. The mere presence of a single rose conquers all resentment and hatred.

You are also invited to read one of my earliest posts on 1 April 2008:
"A Rose Is Not For A Fool"

********************************************************

"An eye for an eye" makes everyone blind.

Dear all readers,

This is not a political blog.

This is not a blog for creating resentment.

This is a blog for all to read and comment on the relevent subject, and to be friends.

I invite all of you here to read and to share opinions. This is a "public" place although it is my blog. It is impossible for me to please everyone.

The best approach is that ALL readers be more sensitive to others.

It is unfortunate that this blog programme does not allow deleting part of the comments. When it is even one word to be deleted, the whole comment got to go.

Have peace. Hatred and resentment are just poisons one injects into one's mind causing misery to oneself.

If this blog is to fur
ther create hatred and resentment, then I shall not be a party to it.

Please read this message without prejudice. I am NOT for or against anyone.

Have a nice and happy day !

2 Contestants 15 Children !!

(Picture from My Sinchew)

I am not writing about the KT By-election. You can read them in 1001 blogs by just a click. One thing I know it's going to be a Bye-Bye Election for one Party.

What caught my eyes in the Star report was that the two main contestants have a total of 15 children!

Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh ( BN ) has 6 daughters!

Haji Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut ( PAS) has 2 sons and 7 daughters!

And the WINNER is PAS Haji Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut! Majority 3 children.

Detail majority results: sons 2; daughter 1.

By the way, this bye (oops sorry "by")-election has no efect on the present administration. So there is nothing to lose.

This gives more reason to vote in order to kick out the rotten egg rather than to elect an incumbent.

Have A Nice Day !!

I am ashamed of myself!

I received this from email. I am ashamed of myself!!
Do you know why?

***********************************************************************

We should be thankful and learn to face life... just like this wonderful girl!

Smile and spread hope, love and good-will around.
Wishing you a blessed and fulfilling new year 2009.

May you be blessed in many ways and prosper.

Qian HongYan - The smiling crippled girl

Qian HongYan lost her legs in an accident

Her family in China are poor and couldn't afford artificial legs, so she uses a basketball to help her move.
(My comment: But a few photos below showed her with artificial legs!!??)

Qian uses two wooden props to drag herself, and never complains, even though she has worn through six basketballs...

She attends her class....

She's always smiling...

always smiling

she encourages a crippled patient and gets a big smile!

This young girl must be a tremendous source of inspiration to everyone who are unhappy even though endowed with full faculties.

Qian smiles always, never complains and is grateful with what she has, all the time!

HAVE A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY AHEAD, SPREADING JOY AND LOVE!

A Boot For Bush

Malaysian Insider reports that President Bush would most probably be bestowed the unenviable title of the worst US president in history. It was reported that the manufacturer of the famous boot thrown at him has received an order of 300,000 pairs of size 10 "Bush Boots". If with so many boots he still can't be booted out, come noon Jan 20, he will still be booted out of office.

How many millions of lives have he wrecked, including his own soldiers'?

Will he retire and live in peace within himself and with a clear conscience, together with his father?????

2009 : International Year Of Astronomy

A very happy new year to all of you. A standard greeting for the year 2009. Today is the first day of the rest of your 2009. Or is it?

Actually time and distance are only concepts created by humans to have a sense of the passage of life. In the unimaginable vastness of the cosmos, time and distance are non-events. Is there really a beginning or an end? A controversial question which I shall not pursue to invite emotional arguments. To me in this vastness of space, there is no time, no distance, no beginning, and no ending. It just revolves in cycle...formation, existence, degeneration, and finally destruction; and the cycle of this phenomenal spectacular theatrical display starts all over again.

So to the universe at large today is just another day. Same as the billions and billions of days that went pass, and will be similar for the billions and billions of days yet to come.

The Year 2009 is declared as The International Year Of Astronomy. I hope that humans can spend more time looking upwards with awe and inspiration and realize how minute and insignificant each person is , and how short each person's life is, in this vastness of space. Instead of finding faults with others, why not use our time wisely for good health, peace and contentment?

I shall surely try AGAIN and AGAIN! As written in my profile, I am just a tiny speck of dust trying to settle down!!

Below are some information on The International Year Of Astronomy.
The picture "M31" below is also for us to imagine the unimaginable vastness of the universe!!

Have a happy 2009!!

M31 - The Great Galaxy in Andromeda

The Andromeda Galaxy is a gigantic collection of more than 300 billion stars. Easily visible from a dark site, it is one of the farthest objects that can be seen with the unaided eye, at a distance of about 2.5 million light years. Companion dwarf elliptical galaxies M32 and M110 are also visible.

M31 is a member of our local group of galaxies, which also contains the Milky Way, Magellanic Clouds, and M33. All are part of the gigantic Virgo supercluster of galaxies that dominates our local part of the universe

(Picture from UNESCO Site)

IYA2009 General

The International Year of Astronomy 2009 is a global effort initiated by the International Astronomical Union and UNESCO to help the citizens of the world rediscover their place in the Universe through the day- and night-time sky, and thereby engage a personal sense of wonder and discovery.

Vision

Everyone should realise the impact of astronomy and other fundamental sciences on our daily lives, and understand how scientific knowledge can contribute to a more equitable and peaceful society. IYA2009 activities will take place locally, nationally, regionally and internationally. National Nodes have been formed in each country to prepare activities for 2009. These nodes will establish collaborations between professional and amateur astronomers, science centres and science communicators to prepare activities for 2009. Already now, 135 countries are involved and well over 140 are expected to participate eventually.

To help coordinate this huge global programme and to provide an important resource for the participating countries, the IAU has established a central Secretariat and an IYA2009 website (www.astronomy2009.org) as the principal IYA2009 resource for public, professionals and media alike.
